Peterborough is on the A1(M). Junction 16 leads to the A15 at Yaxley, where the A15 begins as London Road. Junction 17 is where the Fletton Parkway, the A1139, meets the A1, the A1(M) and the A605, signed for Peterborough and for Oundle and Northampton. The Fletton Parkway is the southern bypass of the city and the Frank Perkins Parkway, also the A1139, is the eastern bypass, starting from a roundabout with the A15 near Eye. The Soke Parkway is the whole section of the A47 that runs through Peterborough, and the A15 Paston Parkway bypasses the eastern edge of the city.
National Highways calls the A1 between Wansford and Wothorpe, west of Peterborough on the Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire border, a freight corridor to the port of Felixstowe. Northbound between those places the A1 is closed overnight, Monday to Friday from 8pm to 6am, from 30 September 2026 to mid-December 2026 for resurfacing and maintenance, with northbound traffic diverted by the A47 westbound and the A43 northbound.
